GENERAL THERAPY QUESTIONS
The Basics
Therapy is a collaborative process where we work together to better understand your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It can help you gain clarity, manage stress, improve relationships, cope with challenges, and create meaningful change in your life.
We work with clients facing a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, stress, life transitions, relationship issues, identity exploration, burnout, and more. If you’re not sure whether therapy is right for your specific situation, feel free to reach out and schedule a consultation.
Our approach to therapy is warm, compassionate, and collaborative. Our clinicians draw from evidence-based practices like Internal Family Systems, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and mindfulness, and tailor therapy to each individual’s needs and goals.
We work with teens, adults, couples, and families from diverse backgrounds and identities, offering care that is inclusive, affirming, and grounded in trauma-informed, ethically sound practice.
Sessions are conducted virtually through a secure telehealth platform, SimplePractice, or through a secure phone system, iPlum. That way you get the support you need from the comfort of your own home, while maintaining confidentiality and privacy.
SCHEDULING AND SESSIONS
The Details
We offer individual therapy, couples therapy, and family therapy, and specialize in addressing issues such as anxiety disorders, mood disorders, trauma, and eating disorders. Services are provided through secure telehealth and tailored to each client’s needs and goals.
Session length depends on the type of service provided. Brief individual therapy sessions are 30 minutes, while standard individual, couples, and family therapy sessions are 50 minutes long. Depending on the clinician’s availability, sessions can be extended if additional support is needed.
Most clients begin with weekly sessions, though frequency can be adjusted based on clinical needs, goals, and financial considerations. Session frequency will be determined collaboratively with your clinician, and may change over time.
Once you’re a client, you’ll be able to schedule, reschedule, or cancel sessions through the client portal. You can also contact your therapist via email or phone with scheduling requests.
We ask for at least 48 hours notice for cancellations. Late cancellations or missed appointments may be subject to the full session fee, as that time is reserved specifically for you.
Yes! We offer a free 15-minute consultation call to help you determine if we’re a good fit for you. This is a chance for you to share a bit about what you’re looking for, and to ask us questions about our approach to therapy and how can support you.
RATES AND INSURANCE
The Financials
Session fees vary by service type and duration. Initial Intakes are $225, Individual Therapy Sessions are $175, Brief Individual Therapy Sessions are $115, and Couples/Family Therapy Sessions are $200. Many of our clients use insurance benefits to help cover therapy costs. Feel free to reach out if you would like more information about payment options and additional insurance-related questions.
We are out-of-network providers and do not accept insurance directly. However, we provide superbills each month, which you may submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement. Make sure to always check with your insurance provider regarding out-of-network mental health benefits.
Working with an out-of-network therapist allows care to be guided by your needs rather than insurance requirements. Insurance companies may limit sessions or determine when treatment should end, while out-of-network care keeps decisions between you and your therapist and offers greater flexibility and privacy.
We accept credit/debit cards and HSA/FSA payments, which are processed through the client portal after each session.
Yes, therapy is usually an eligible expense for Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). Be sure to check with your plan administrator to confirm coverage.
Yes. If you have out-of-network benefits, we provide a monthly superbill (itemized receipt) that you can submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement.
POLICIES AND PRIVACY
The Logistics
We use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform, SimplePractice, which is designed for therapy. You’ll receive a private link before each session and can join from your computer, tablet, or phone.
Your confidentiality is a top priority. We follow all legal and ethical standards for privacy, including HIPAA regulations. We will also go over limits to confidentiality during our first session so you know exactly what to expect.
While we do our best to respond to messages promptly, we’re not available 24/7. If you’re in crisis or need immediate support, please contact a crisis line, visit your nearest emergency room, or call 911. We can provide you with a list of crisis resources as well.
GETTING STARTED
Let's Go!
The best way to find out is through a consultation. During that time, we can talk about what you’re hoping for, and you can get a sense of my style. Therapy is a deeply personal process, and feeling comfortable with your therapist is essential.
The first session is about getting to know each other. The therapist will ask some questions about your background, current concerns, and goals for therapy. We’ll go at your pace, and there’s no pressure to share everything right away.
Therapy is highly individual—some people find short-term support helpful for a specific issue, while others benefit from longer-term work. We’ll regularly check in to make sure therapy continues to feel useful to you.
Nothing! Simply come as you are. If you’d like, you can jot down some thoughts or questions ahead of time, but it’s certainly not required (or expected).
