Struggling to Feel Like Yourself?

It’s normal for mood to fluctuate, but when sadness, irritability, or emptiness linger, it can start to affect every part of your life. At Elevate Psychotherapy, we help you understand the root of your emotional pain and work toward lasting relief so you can regain balance, rebuild motivation, and reconnect with what matters most in your life.

What Are Mood Disorders?

Mood disorders include depression, dysthymia, bipolar disorder, and related conditions that impact emotional stability, energy, and motivation. They can change how you think, feel, and function—making it difficult to experience joy, focus, or connection. While symptoms vary, mood disorders often involve shifts in sleep, appetite, concentration, and self-worth. Therapy helps you make sense of these experiences, gain perspective, and begin to feel like yourself again.

Symptoms Of Mood Disorders

Mood disorders can cause persistent sadness, low energy, loss of interest, irritability, or hopelessness. Some people may feel emotionally numb, tearful, or caught in cycles of self-criticism. For some, they may have significant highs and lows in their mood, and these mood changes can happen quickly, while others experience long stretches of feeling low or flat. Over time, these patterns can affect work, relationships, and overall well-being. But with consistent support, relief and stability are possible.

Treating Mood Disorders

At Elevate Psychotherapy, we take an integrative, evidence-based approach that addresses mood on emotional, cognitive, and physical levels. Together, we’ll explore the factors influencing your mood—past experiences, thought patterns, stress, or imbalance—and develop strategies to help you feel steadier and more empowered. Therapy may include building coping skills, reframing negative beliefs, and cultivating mindfulness and self-compassion to support long-term healing.

1 in 10 adults experience a mood disorder each year.

Goals For Treating Mood Disorders

Our work together focuses on restoring balance, improving emotion regulation, and strengthening resilience. Your therapist will help you explore your symptoms and triggers, shift negative thought patterns, develop healthier coping strategies, build emotional awareness and regulation, and gain a deeper understanding of what’s contributing to your symptoms. As you gain insight into your patterns and strengths, you’ll begin to move through challenges with greater ease, confidence, and self-trust.

Benefits of Mood Disorder Therapy

Therapy will help you heal from your emotional and physical symptoms. Addressing your mood disorder can ease symptoms like low energy, sleep disturbances, appetite changes, and persistent feelings of sadness or irritability. As your mood stabilizes, you may notice more energy, focus, and motivation, and activities or relationships you once avoided may begin to feel meaningful again. Many clients describe feeling lighter, calmer, and more hopeful—able to experience life with a steadier sense of purpose and peace.

How We Can Help

At Elevate Psychotherapy, we understand that living with a mood disorder can feel isolating—but you don’t have to face it alone. We provide a compassionate, collaborative space where you can explore what’s happening beneath the surface and begin to rebuild from a place of understanding. Together, we’ll help you develop lasting tools for balance, stability, and self-compassion. Our team is experienced in treating a wide range of mood disorders using evidence-based approaches to help you find relief and stability.

THERAPY FOR MOOD DISORDERS

Effective Treatment Modalities

CBT helps you identify and shift negative thought patterns that contribute to low mood, hopelessness, and self-criticism. By developing healthier perspectives and behaviors, CBT supports emotional balance and helps you build confidence in your ability to manage challenges.

IFS helps you recognize and nurture the parts of yourself that influence mood—like the inner critic or the part that feels hopeless. By fostering compassion and integration, IFS helps you relate to yourself with greater understanding and balance.

EMDR is highly effective when mood disturbances are linked to past experiences or unresolved trauma. EMDR helps reprocess distressing memories so they no longer trigger the same emotional weight, allowing mood to stabilize as old pain loses its intensity.

Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) helps you identify, understand, and transform the emotions underlying depression and low mood. By deepening awareness and acceptance of core emotions—such as sadness, anger, or shame—EFT promotes healing, self-compassion, and a stronger emotional foundation.

Mindfulness and CFT cultivate awareness and kindness toward yourself. These approaches help quiet self-judgment, reduce rumination, and build calm presence, making it easier to respond to life with steadiness and patience.

DBT provides tools for regulating strong emotions, tolerating distress, and maintaining healthy relationships. For clients who experience intense mood swings, DBT offers practical, structured techniques for building stability and resilience.

ACT teaches emotional flexibility by helping you accept uncomfortable feelings instead of fighting them. Through values-based action, ACT helps you find purpose and forward movement, even during difficult periods.

SE addresses the body’s role in emotional regulation. Depression and chronic stress often manifest physically through fatigue or tension; SE helps release stored energy, calm the nervous system, and restore a sense of vitality and connection.

BA focuses on breaking the cycle of withdrawal that often accompanies depression. By helping you re-engage in meaningful activities even when motivation is low, BA gradually restores energy, interest, and a sense of accomplishment—key ingredients for lifting mood.

IPT focuses on how relationships and life transitions affect mood. By improving communication and repairing strained connections, IPT supports stronger relationships and greater emotional stability.

An integrative approach to treating mood disorders recognizes that depressive and manic symptoms are shaped by thoughts, emotions, life experiences, and nervous system functioning. Treatment draws from a range of evidence-based approaches to address both symptoms and contributing factors. Sessions may blend cognitive and behavioral strategies, emotion-focused work, and somatic interventions to support regulation and engagement in daily life. Care is tailored to symptom presentation, life context, and individual goals.
